𝘕𝘰 𝘛𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨? look at how identities are intertwined with personal histories and social cultural contexts. 

The silk door curtain is made from the offcut left from cutting out my Chinese and English names. Embossed aluminium foil and photos were directly stitched onto the silk, the aluminium foil cutouts installed on the wall are inverted (and not inverted) characters of my Chinese name and labels that were associated with me. Touching certain foil cutouts will trigger audio recordings associated with the word and or label, but to reach the foil cutouts, one must get through the suspended silk curtain. The silk curtain acts as a physical barrier that complicates this simple process of touch, it’s both intimate but also feels incredibly intrusive, somewhere in the liminal space between labels used on us and what we understand as our own. 

The work was me trying to understand what is left of me once all those external labels have been stripped?
